Herbstreit has decided to cut out at least one show from his hectic weekly schedule
Tuesday nights won’t be the same on ESPN with its reveal show of College Football Playoff rankings. While ESPN broadcasts the event, one of the most recognizable faces on the College Football Playoff rankings show has announced his departure.
The Long-tenured Kirk Herbstreit announced Saturday night that he has “retired” from the show — revealing the news during ESPN’s broadcast of Alabama-LSU game, which the Crimson Tide dominated 42-13 in Baton Rouge.
Alongside Herbstreit was play-by-play man Chris Fowler, encouraging viewers to tune into the rankings show Tuesday evening. However, he was surprised by what Herbstreit said next.
“No, not me,” Herbstreit said. “I retired from that.”
Fowler asked, “Is that congratulations or condolences?” Both laughed it off before adding “I think we know the answer.”
The Tuesday show’s panel included former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy, LSU’s Booger McFarland and Joey Galloway with Herbstreit calling in via video to discuss the latest ranking. When the the playoff field would be released following the conclusion of conference championship weekend, he would often be in studio for analysis.
Herbstreit is busier than ever so it makes sense to for someone that has dedicated his professional life to college football broadcast to take a step back. It’s well deserved.
