This decision comes after Oregon State’s 39-14 loss to Wake Forest on Saturday, which dropped the Beavers to 0-7 on the season–the program’s worst start to a season since 1991.
Trent Bray was named head coach of the Oregon State Beavers on November 28, 2023, following the dismissal of Jonathan Smith. Before his promotion, Bray served as a graduate assistant and linebackers coach at Oregon State from 2012 to 2014, then spent three seasons as Nebraska’s linebackers coach from 2015 to 2017. He returned to Oregon State in 2018 to resume his role coaching linebackers, a position he held until November 2021, when he was promoted to defensive coordinator while continuing to oversee the linebacking corps. Two years later, Bray ascended to the head coaching role.
During the Beavers’ 0-7 start, Oregon State endured several blowout losses, including a 45-14 defeat to No. 21 Texas Tech, a 41-7 loss to their biggest rival, No. 6 Oregon, a 34-15 setback against Cal, and the 39-14 loss to the Demon Deacons. They also dropped close contests to Fresno State (36-27), Appalachian State (27-23), and Houston in overtime (27-24).
Trent Bay finishes his tenure as the Beavers head coach with a 5-14 overall record. Oregon State has named special assistant Robb Akey as the team’s interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
It has been a rough season for Beavers fans, but they can breathe a sigh of relief and hope for the best as Oregon State will now begin the search for their next guy to lead their program.
Oregon State has fired head coach Trent Bray in the middle of just his second season with the team.
